THE PEOPLE THAT MAKE MOUNTAIN MOORLAND
Meet the Team

Jonny Barker
A passionate advocate for outdoor activities for young people, Jonny has spent many years working to encourage youth engagement with the outdoors, believing it can make a significant difference in their lives as they grow.
His journey began in 2010 when he completed his Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award. Soon after, he became an outdoor instructor, earning his Basic Expedition Leader's award and starting to lead Bronze DofE expeditions for a local RAF Air Cadet group.
Jonny progressed to become a Bronze and Silver DofE assessor, then trained to become a Hill and Moorland Leader before completing his Gold Assessor training. In addition to these achievements, Jonny is a National Navigation Award Scheme Course Director and a certified First Aid Instructor. He has also completed his Mountain Leader training course and is preparing for his final assessment.
When he’s not leading expeditions, Jonny can often be found in the mountains, enjoying a good cup of Yorkshire Tea, usually in the rain.

Matt Torr
Matt is a teacher by profession and an outdoorsman at heart. He is a self-confessed climbing addict but he has been known to don a pair of running shoes when the rock is wet!
Originally from Sheffield, Matt actually served his climbing apprenticeship on the sea cliffs of Cornwall. This precipitated his involvement with Search & Rescue firstly with HM Coastguard and latterly with Mountain Rescue. His voluntary SAR career, to date has lasted almost 20 years during which time, as a casualty carer he has dealt with dozens of outdoor first-aid incidents and he is currently the Training Officer at Oldham Mountain Rescue.
Matt is also heavily involved with DofE and is eternally psyched to facilitate access to outdoor adventures at all levels. He is currently working towards his Mountain Leader and Rock Climbing Instructor qualifications.
